Bloodborne fishing hamlet11/11/2022 ![]() ![]() “A great relic, also known as the Cord of the Eye. One of these is one third of an umbilical cord, described as: But there is another way that you can gain insight: through three types of consumables. ![]() Practically the whole game is built around Insight, gained through making breakthrough experiences, such as seeing a boss for the first time, or beating a boss. Does Aldrich = Eldritch after all? But why did Aldrich see this truth in the first place?īloodborne makes a great deal of insight, the collective knowledge of supposed cosmic Great Ones that humans can gain to learn more. Could Aldrich have been the origin of Bloodborne’s Eldritch truth, a truth that he shared with his deacons, who then spread it out into the world? Could the age of the deep have arrived after the fire went out, and rather than darkness, the world developed onwards into a new age…an age of Victorian era development! From this, it seems feasible to suggest that Bloodborne takes place a long time after Dark Souls 3, when this age that Aldrich foresaw has arrived. Why is it used? Well, could it actually be something else that has been warped by time? A name perhaps? The name of the first person to witness the truth of the deep sea? The name of the first person to share this with others, who then formed a covenant and following behind him? Aldrich maybe? Again it may be coincidental, but the similarity between the two names, and the connections with water and Aldrich’s odd state of rumination, certainly inspires parallels. The word eldritch is quite odd here, particularly when used next to truth. ![]() Great volumes of water serve as a bulwark guarding sleep, and an augur of the eldritch truth.”Īt first sight this doesn’t seem like it means much. “This rune means ‘Deep Sea’ and grants augmented resistance. Let’s have a look at the Deep Sea Rune’s description: It’s left unclear whether this is literal or not, but it seems particularly coincidental that Bloodborne would then have so many references to water, particularly the runes, which are actually knowledge of Great Ones that humans have translated into a way they can recognize and understand. He would devour the gods himself.”Īldrich foresaw a world dominated by the deep sea. He knew the path would be arduous, but he had no fear. “When Aldrich ruminated on the fading of the fire, it inspired visions of a coming age of the deep sea. Let’s flick back to Dark Souls 3, more specifically to Aldrich. Deep Sea? Sounds familiar right? Well it should. Fromsoft’s PS4 exclusive is obsessed with water, from lakes to seas, and this is present in a number of different ways, from the existence of the watery hell of the Fishing Hamlet to most of the runes (runes being the equivalent of rings) being water related, for example Great Lake and, most importantly, Deep Sea. Let’s consider possibly the biggest connection between the two games, starting with one of Bloodborne’s major themes: water. Let’s take a look at the arguments for this being the case first. I’m going to debate whether Dark Souls and Bloodborne actually take place in the same universe, but with one occurring a long time after the other. Of course there isn’t and probably never will be a definitive answer to this question, since Fromsoft love leaving open questions for their fans to debate, something I wouldn’t disagree with them doing, but that doesn’t mean we can’t theorise and debate. But since when have Fromsoft been entirely truthful? They love spinning some wonderfully crafted lies into their lore, and this could potentially be the biggest yet, that in fact Yharnam and Lothric exist in the same universe. It’s been said by Fromsoft before: Dark Souls and Bloodborne take place in totally separate worlds. ![]()
